Nestled within the state forest of Fini in Limassol, Chantara Waterfall is amongst the best known Cypriot waterfalls. Amidst towering pine trees, its thunderous roar, fittingly named after the Cypriot word “anatra” meaning ”water noise”, echoes. Its turbulent waters dance over volcanic rocks, cascading from a height of 26 feet and onto a great rock. Usually, this stubborn boulder splits the waterfall in two, but at peak flow it submerges it, forming a watery dome.

On the outskirts of the village of Platres in Troodos, the Caledonia Waterfall is amongst the tallest waterfalls in Cyprus, cascading down from a height of 40 feet. Its enchanting name, Caledonia, is a nostalgic nod to Scotland, given by a Scottish expedition who discovered the waterfall in the Platres region of Cyprus in 1878.

When it comes to the waterfalls of Cyprus, Mesa Potamos may be within the mountains of Troodos, but away from the beaten path. This picturesque multi-tiered waterfall with a height of 23 feet forms part of the Arkolhanias river, also known as Mesa Potamos.

A stone’s throw away from the bustling town of Platres resides the tallest waterfall in Cyprus. Millomeri Waterfall is an oasis of tranquillity hidden in plain sight. Carving its path along a main road, it slips down a slope of 50 feet, sheltered amid towering rocky walls.

There are several waterfalls in Cyprus beyond the Troodos. In fact, the region of Kritou Terra in Paphos is home to what some argue is the prettiest of them all. The waters of Kremmiotis Waterfall tumble and spray down mossy rocks and within deep gorges, creating a fairy tale vision of natural abundance.
